Stadtwerke Erding GmbH
The Stadtwerke Erding GmbH is a privately run utility company with a long tradition of public supply. It was 200 years ago that the first public water supply was set up and more than 100 years ago that they began supplying Erding with electricity. Today Munich Airport is among the many companies that rely on the supply services of this Erding utility company.
Since the development of the first water supply and the original three-phase power station through to liberalisation of the energy markets, much has changed in Erding. This has now become the focus of a small but select exhibition in the customer service centre of the Stadtwerke utility company in the town centre of Erding.
The concept focuses on the three products the Stadtwerke Erding GmbH and its affiliated companies supply to its customers: electricity, water and natural gas. Visitors can initially choose one of three gates and then take a guided tour of each product from source to consumer. In keeping with the educational brief of the exhibition – the target groups being not only Stadtwerke customers but also school groups – a great deal of emphasis was placed on interactive displays and information conveyed by a blend of different media. Visitors can press buttons in a walk-in archive to access background information and hear entertaining stories on historic exhibits like the original “people’s wireless” or an old refrigerator bearing the Opel brand.
