Rennes, Commemoration & Chronicle of the City”

“Rennes, Commemoration & Chronicle of the City” displays the architectural and city planning development of the city of Rennes from the Middle Ages through to the recently completed building projects of the present. The exhibition was commissioned by the city of Rennes in association with the DRAC Bretagne (Ministry of Culture) to create an inventory of its architectural heritage.
The physical layout of the exhibition depicts the historic development of the city of Rennes and at the same time stimulates reflection on its cultural heritage and history.
Various historic stages of city planning help to shed light on the current make-up of the city – and, in reverse, displays about the current use of public spaces and contemporary buildings invite reflection on the past.
In scenographic terms, this connection is represented by a strong symbol that runs through the whole exhibition. A “constructive band” acts like a time loop connecting past, present and future, although a number of variations do appear along the way: on the exterior of the building, the band rises in a sculptural and dynamic way as a form of lighting and entrance plate, while in the interior it primarily connects the different sections and serves as an exhibit holder, projection surface or backdrop for images and graphics.“
